A 43-year-old Sudbury man is being sought by North Bay Police after a car chase on the weekend.
City police say around noon on Saturday officers were called to the area of the North Bay Mall about a person possibly using drugs while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
An attempt was made to speak to the driver, but police say he then fled the area at a high rate of speed.
Officers briefly pursued the vehicle but called it off in the interest of public safety.
Police say the vehicle, an older model Dark Blue Chevorlet Cruze bearing Ontario license plate DEJX771, was last seen heading east on Marshall Avenue.
The driver has since been identified and charged with flight from police, dangerous operation, driving while suspended and more.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Clinton Withers.
“This incident demonstrates the accused’s lack of regard for public safety,” says Jeff Warner, Inspector of Operations. “His erratic driving and attempt to evade the police in a heavily populated area put the community and the motoring public at risk. I would encourage him to find counsel and turn himself in at his earliest opportunity.”
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the accused or has dashcam/security camera footage from the area, is asked to contact the North Bay Police Service by dialing 911, or by calling 705-497-5555 and pressing 5 to speak with an officer.
Police ask people not to approach the accused.
