Summer camp inspiring future health-care professionals

High school students locally and across the north once again have the opportunity to explore medicine and health sciences at summer camp.

The Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM) University is accepting applications for its 20th annual CampMed program.

NOSM says the program aims to inspire the next generation of health-care professionals, particularly those from underserved regions.

The deadline for students completing grade 10 or 11 is March 24.

CampMed takes place July 7-11 in Sudbury and July 14-18 in Thunder Bay. Since 2006, over 1,100 campers from more than 160 communities have taken part in CampMed.

Volunteers, who have lived or studied in Northern Ontario or another rural and remote area of Canada, are also needed.

Post-secondary students who have completed their first year, university graduates, allied health professionals, and NOSM University students are eligible to volunteer.

The deadline to apply to volunteer is March 25.
