Summer Challenge Presents Willy Wonka!

Summer Challenge Presents Willy Wonka!

Musical Theatre students from across the district will be showcasing their talents on Thursday, July 18 until Saturday, July 20 as Summer Challenge presents Willy Wonka!

Presented by the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board Summer Challenge Program, the production features students from grade 6 through grade 12, as they develop various stage production skills, including acting, singing, dancing and design, all while earning credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

This year, guests will look forward to a show highlighting young and exciting talent as they perform the captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic tale, Willy Wonka.  It’s a scrummdidilyumptius musical as Willy Wonka stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his candy bars.  Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka's mysterious chocolate factory, promises to light up the stage. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse (Jekyll & Hyde, Doctor Dolittle) and Anthony Newley, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka is a performance guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth!

Ella Baxter, who plays the title role of Charlie, said, "The cast is full of talented individuals with bright futures in theatre. We've worked incredibly hard, and I believe it's going to be an amazing show!"

Production Director Whitney Cerilli expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "We're thrilled for the community to join us and support the show. These young performers have given their all to create a delightful experience, and we hope the audience enjoys it as much as we enjoyed making it."

Performances will take place in the Bishop Carter Auditorium at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School on Thursday July 18, Friday July 19, and Saturday July 20.  Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door, or in advance at the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall front office or at Creative Learning. The doors will open each night at 6:00 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board serves approximately 3,100 students in 11 elementary schools across North Bay, West Nipissing, Mattawa, Powassan and Callander, St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School, and the St. Joseph Adult Education campus, in North Bay.
