Over $800,000 to Protect Community and Enhance Police Services

The Ontario government is investing a total of $843,297 to the North Bay Police Service Board, supporting the development of three projects in North Bay. The funding is being delivered through the Community Safety and Policing Grant Program to help protect families and the North Bay community.

“The Community Safety and Policing Grant Program will provide the North Bay Police Service Board with targeted funding to support projects addressing sexual violence and harassment, human trafficking, exploitation, mental health, addictions, and more,” said MPP Vic Fedeli. “This funding will help protect North Bay and increase police capacity to address local priorities.”

"The Community Safety and Policing Grant Program will have a meaningful impact on public safety in North Bay. The grant will support seven members of our service, including two Community Engagement Officers, two Mobile Crisis Officers, a School Liaison Officer, a Human Trafficking Officer, and an Internet Child Exploitation Officer. This initiative aims to protect vulnerable populations, including our youth, respond compassionately to residents in crisis, and provide cost-effective early prevention strategies. This investment is essential to addressing the complex community safety challenges facing our city, and we are grateful to the Government of Ontario and MPP Vic Fedeli for recognizing the importance of these initiatives." - Chief Longworth, North Bay Police Service.

“The investment made by the Government of Ontario and MPP Vic Fedeli through the Community Safety and Policing Grant Program has a substantial impact on the North Bay Police Service. The grant directly and immediately provides support and resources to address local priorities, from protecting at-risk youth to enhancing public safety and trust, while also helping to rebuild relationships with communities affected by poverty, substance use, mental health challenges, discrimination, and social disconnection.” - Board Chair Stivrins, North Bay Police Service Board.

Investments to the North Bay Police Service Board, include the following:

  • $328,050 to the Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Investigations Unit, to proactively identify, investigate and disrupt criminal networks involved in the trafficking and exploitation of vulnerable persons, particularly youth.
  • $309,247 to the Community Engagement Enhancement, to increase police visibility, strengthening relationships, and promote safety through proactive outreach.
  • $206,000 to the Community Mental Health Support Enhancement Project, supporting partnership initiatives aimed at improving community safety and well-being through effective, collaborative crisis response.

Additionally, 127 projects are being funded across the province for 2025-26. Of those 127 projects, 88 projects will address local priorities, and 39 projects will address provincial priorities, including gun and gang related violence, sexual violence and harassment, human trafficking, mental health and addictions, hate-motivated crime, housing and homelessness, and commercial/retail theft.

The Community Safety and Policing Grant Program supports policing initiatives that focus on local or provincial priorities and provides eligible police services/boards and municipalities policed by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with funding to deploy front-line officers where and when they are needed most.
