Support from Enbridge
North Bay Fire department receives support from Enbridge
Enbridge Gas is teaming up with North Bay Fire and Emergency Services to improve home safety and save lives.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders says they’ve received nearly 250 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
He says they’ll be working with community partners to find homeowners that may have a financial need and supply them with alarms.
“It’s finding these people in the community that have a need for protection and a need for that assistance,” says Saunders. “The 250 alarms will be able to provide that support to these people.”
“It’s unreasonable in 2024 there’s still circumstance in our community where people are unprotected,” Saunders says. “The outcome could have been far worse had that been at two in the morning instead of two in the afternoon. I shudder to think of what the result of that fire would’ve been.”
Jennifer Beam, Field Supervisor North Bay, Enbridge Gas says the best way to reduce potential exposure to carbon monoxide is to properly maintain fuel-burning equipment.
“These alarms are a critical second line of defence against carbon monoxide poisoning,” she says. “We’re proud to support our communities, raise awareness and help Ontarians implement these protection strategies.”
Safe Community Project Zero is a public education campaign, supported by the Fire Marshal’s Fire Safety Council, that is providing more than 14,500 alarms to residents in 75 communities across Ontario.
