Team Winters to represent Northern Ontario at nationals
North Bay’s Team Riley Winters is heading to the U18 national championship in Timmins (Feb 8-14).
They will be representing Northern Ontario, after they won the U18 Northern Ontario provincials in Fort Frances on the weekend.
The team went undefeated, at 4-0, and won the final 6-2 over a Thunder Bay rink.

“Our goal was to earn a Heart, and this team delivered that and so much more,” says coach Steve Decary. “They stayed patient, trusted each other, and rose to the occasion when it mattered most. Their commitment to every detail, especially sweeping and teamwork, made a huge difference. I couldn’t be prouder of the way they competed and represented Northern Ontario.”
Officials say throughout the event, Team Winters displayed consistency, composure, and strong shot-making under pressure, complemented by disciplined communication and exceptional sweeping that consistently maximized scoring opportunities.
They say the team’s ability to manage weight, control the house, and support one another on every shot proved to be a decisive factor throughout the event.
