Theft-Assault with Weapon at Cassells St Store

The North Bay Police Service has arrested a 38-year-old male for theft and assault with a weapon.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. on January 25, 2025, police responded to a reported theft at a cannabis store on Cassells Street, North Bay. The accused had stolen a glass water pipe (commonly referred to as a “bong”) and fled the business. A bystander outside the business attempted to stop the accused at which point the accused assaulted him by striking him with the stolen item. The victim was able to restrain the accused until police arrived at which point the accused was arrested and charged.
A search of the accused by police located approximately 3 grams of suspected fentanyl.
The accused in this incident is Michael WEAGANT, male, age 38, of Astorville, Ontario, who is charged with:
- One count of Theft Under $5,000
- One count of Assault with a Weapon
- One count of Possession of a Schedule I Substance
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is set to appear before the court on March 4, 2025.
