21 robotics teams are converging on the city later this week.

More than 250 students, parents and teacher mentors will be at West Ferris Secondary School on Saturday, Dec. 14 for the tenth annual North Bay FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Robotics Challenge Qualifying Tournament.

They’re battling for top honours and the chance to advance to the East Provincial FIRST LEGO League Challenge Championship in January.

Teams are coming from Burk’s Falls, Callander, Manitoulin, Sudbury and elsewhere.

Officials say they’re competing to solve real-world challenges with their custom-built LEGO robots.

‘Submerged’ is the challenge theme this year.

Admission for spectators is free with robotics matches taking place between 1 pm and 3 pm on Saturday.

That’s followed by the awards ceremony at 3:30 pm.

FIRST Team 1305 is hosting the Saturday event with students dedicating their time over the past three months to mentoring FLL students and their teams.
