Trafficking Charges Laid, $82K in Drugs Seized
A 39-year-old North Bay man is in custody after he was arrested on drug trafficking charges in North Bay last Friday.
In the winter of 2024, the NBPS Street Crime Unit began an investigation in relation to the accused illegally trafficking drugs in the North Bay area. On Friday May 6th, around 1:20 pm the accused was observed exiting his residence on Birches Road and attending his vehicle for a brief period.
He then walked to the area of Birches Road and Lakeshore drive where he met another individual and made a hand-to-hand drug transaction. Both parties were arrested by officers at that time. Drugs and a small amount of cash were seized, incident to arrest. A search warrant was obtained for the accused’s residence and his vehicle.
Derek McCarthy, 39 years, of North Bay, is charged with;
- One count of Trafficking in a Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl)
- Five counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking in a Schedule I Substance
- One count of Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
- One count of Production of a Substance
As a result of police searches, the following was seized;
- 113.9 grams of Fentanyl
- 486.3 grams of cocaine
- 0.4 grams of Methamphetamine
- 2.5 – 8mg Dilaudid pills
- 44 – 1mg Hydromorphone pills
The seized controlled substances have an approximate street value of $82,770.
The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
