Trappers converge on Fur Harvesters Auction in North Bay
It’s a big weekend for the Fur Harvesters Auction in North Bay.
A trappers’ convention is taking place Friday and Saturday, and the general public is invited to learn about the industry, what’s happening right in their own backyard, and more.

“If folks are interested there’s a market space so people will be selling fur goods, garments and accessories,” says Doug Chiasson, Executive Director of the Fur Institute of Canada.
He says Fur Harvester Auction on Bond Street plays a key role in the industry.
‘North Bay in a lot of ways is the epicenter of the global wild fur trade,” he says. “We have the last wild fur auction house here in North Bay over at Fur Harvesters. There are two auctions a year, right now. Buyers from all over the world come in to the sales in March and June.”
Chiasson says the trappers convention resumed last year after the COVID-19 pandemic with a few hundred coming to North Bay.
He says people are coming from across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia this year.
