Trout Creek looking to become Kraft Hockeyville
Support is growing for the Trout Creek Community Centre as part of this year’s Kraft Hockeyville competition.
The community has been nominated and is now in the rally phase of the annual contest.
Prizes include $250,000 in arena upgrades and the opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game.
An engineer’s report presented to Powassan council in November says the arena building has reached the end of its useful life.
“To maintain the structure in a safe state of repair for the long term would involve removal of all concrete surrounding the rink to access all interior and perimeter posts for concrete repair at the supporting piers and replacement of all wood posts,” states the report.
A staff report says temporary support posts were installed in early December with monitoring ongoing during and after each snow event, and daily when there’s snow on the roof or if snowfall is expected.
“After each snow event, public works has been clearing the snow along the side of the building as per the Engineer’s recommendations.” reads the December Public Works and Facilities Update.
Area residents can help rally support in the Hockeyville competition by visiting the arena’s rally page.
Points are given for written or video stories, photos of the arena, reactions to stories and photos and more.
Judging in the competition starts March 3, with the top 4 announced on March 15.
Cross-Canada voting runs from 9 am on April 4 until 5 pm the next day, with the winner announced that night.
