Turnaround expected after initial drop in enrolment at NNDSB
Preliminary enrolment figures from the Near North Board show a reduction of 185 students this year.
However, that’s expected to change before an official count later this month.
A report to the board from Seija Van Haesendonck, Superintendent of Business, says more recent counts have shown a reversal of the initial decrease with overall enrolment slightly above board-wide projections.
The preliminary count was taken Sept. 5 and is compared to initial projections.
“Enrolment adjusts as student registrations are reviewed, students enter or leave the board, and secondary students change their schedules, potentially changing their [Full Time Equivalency],” states Van Haesendonck’s report.
The Sept. 5 preliminary count showed a decrease of 36 elementary students and 149 secondary students.
Official counts take place on Oct. 31 and March 31 each school year and are used to determine Core Education funding from the province.
