Two Arrested in Bait Bike Program
North Bay Police Service patrol officers continued with the bait bike program on Thursday by arresting two individuals who attempted to steal the bait bike.
A 28-year-old man and a 35-year-old man, both of North Bay, were arrested in two separate thefts of the bait bike, that was set up in the downtown area of North Bay. The two males were charged with one count each of theft under $5000, and were released on appearance notices. Both will appear in court at a later date, in order to answer to the charges.
“The bait bike initiative continues to be a valuable tool in the toolbox to target the theft of bicycles throughout the city”, says Inspector of Operations, Jeff Warner. “The theft of bicycles is a crime of opportunity for thieves who are looking to make a quick flip for cash or dismantle the bike to sell for parts or scrap metal. The theft of a bicycle has a tremendous impact on the victim who may rely on it as their only mode of transportation to run errands or get to work. The NBPS is committed to using some unconventional tactics like this to target these types of crimes in an effort to reduce the overall impact they have on our community
The bait bike program was initiated last fall, and will be deployed throughout the year.
