Two sides in college support staff strike to sit down with mediator Friday

Negotiations resume Friday involving college support staff who have been on strike for two weeks.

The Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the College Employer Council will sit down with a Ministry-appointed mediator.

The employer says it learned of the union’s request for mediated talks through the media and agreed to meet.

OPSEU represents 10,000 support staff at colleges across Ontario, including Canadore.

Pickets have been set up since Sept. 11 at all three North Bay campuses. The biggest stumbling block has been the union demand of job protection, including no layoffs, and no members’ work being done by others, including outside contractors.
