Uber arrives across the northeast

By Richard Coffin

Uber has officially launched rideshare service across Northeastern Ontario.

It means residents and visitors can request a ride through the Uber app for the first time.

The service started on Monday with officials saying they’re the first operator to go live under Ontario’s new Provincial Rideshare Framework.

The pilot covers communities between Gravenhurst and Cochrane, including Muskoka, North Bay and Timmins, as well as the Greater Sudbury Area.

The rideshare company says driver availability will grow steadily over the coming weeks as more local drivers complete onboarding, so riders may notice longer wait times in the early days.
