Unauthorized Burning is Putting Our Community at Risk

Over the past few weeks, fire crews have responded to multiple grass fires caused by illegal burning.

North Bay Fire & Emergency Services is urging all residents to refrain from unauthorized outdoor burning following several recent grass fires that posed serious threats to public safety and property.

Over the past few weeks, our crews have responded to multiple grass fires caused by illegal burning. These fires have spread quickly due to dry conditions and wind, coming dangerously close to homes, businesses, and forested areas.

Fortunately, no lives were lost but the risk is real, and the consequences could be devastating.

Please be reminded: • All outdoor burning within the City of North Bay requires a valid permit. • Burning grass or yard waste is strictly prohibited under city by-laws and the Ontario Fire Code. • Fines and charges may apply to anyone found responsible for unauthorized burning. • If charged and convicted, individuals may face significant fines.

The Fire department is asking for your cooperation in keeping our community safe. If you see smoke or suspect illegal burning, please report it immediately by calling 911. Let’s work together to prevent needless emergencies.

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. For more information on burning regulations or to apply for a fire permit, visit: fire.northbay.ca — North Bay Fire & Emergency Services “Prevent fires. Protect lives.”
