Alain (Al) Charbonneau

Alain (Al) Charbonneau

Taken from us far too soon, Al’s journey on this earth ended on August 28, 2024, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, following a brief battle with cancer.  He was 61.

Al was the beloved husband of Kelly (nee Stewart), adored father to his two daughters, Renee and Victoria, and stepfather of Brett Salesio.  He is also survived by his brother, Andy (Lynn) Charbonneau, nephew Andrew and niece Kelli, lifelong friend Marc Blouin, in-laws Norman and Margaret Stewart, brother-in-law Jay, and his extended Emmell and Charbonneau families.  He was predeceased by his parents Leopold and Micheline Charbonneau and sister Leona.

Al will be fondly remembered as a kind, gentle soul.  Always willing to go the extra mile to help others.  His gestures small or grand were genuine, he loved to have the element of surprise and to see others happy.  He lived his life rooted in a strong work ethic, from his early years working in the family restaurant near Kirkland Lake to later joining his parents and brother in managing Tilden/National Car Rental branches in both Timmins and North Bay.  After a successful 30 years plus career in the car rental/leasing industry, Al retired in 2011 at which time his focus shifted to raising his young children and supporting his aging parents.  Al had a passion for cooking.  He had an infectious laugh and loved to reminisce about his many adventures over the years.  His family and friends can find comfort in the many memories of Al’s shenanigans from family reunions, vacations, holiday gatherings, attending the children's sporting and school events, dinners with friends, time at the lake, playing darts, and Sunday afternoon “ safety” meetings with the boys.  Al was a huge Toronto Maple Leaf fan and more recently followed the Toronto Blue Jays and our North Bay Battalions.

In recent years, Al was confronted with health challenges.  Not one to complain, he persevered and remained hopeful, enjoying each day to the fullest.  The family wishes to thank the members of Al’s health team, Northeast Cancer Centre, VON, Dr. Edie, Dr. Kumar, Dr. S. Feinberg, and the Chemo Clinic at NBRHC.  In his final days, Al was blessed to have had the exceptional care and compassion of Dr. Moore, Dr. Jinnah, NBRHC ER staff, A3 staff including nurses Lindsay, Colin, and Raymond.

As per Al’s wishes, there will be a Celebration of Life on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 3 pm to 7 pm at the North Bay Elk’s Lodge.  Desired donations can be made to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice to support another’s journey.

Al, you are loved and missed beyond measure.  Forever in our hearts.
