Community Raises $118,500 Supporting Urgently Needed Advanced Medical Equipment

The 18th annual Our Hospital Walk/Run had just over 485 participants and volunteers and raised $118,500 to support our community’s highest priority medical equipment needs.

Thirty-nine-year-old Jeff Miller spoke to the crowd about his experience after having a heart attack in his twenties and a stroke in his thirties. The proud professional engineer and family man shared how the amazing treatment and care he received at NBRHC inspired him to think about how he could give back.

“Following my passion for endurance sports, my wife, friends and I started a charity gravel bike event to raise funds for our hospital. Now I am here, at Our Hospital Walk/Run – another way my family and I can share our gratitude for the care we received.”

To date Miller has spent 935 hours enjoying running, biking and triathlons. “Endurance activities aren’t just to sustain my healthy lifestyle, they are also important for mental health and just good for the mind,” he says. “I am also a little competitive, so I am looking forward to next year’s Walk/Run and contending for the Community Team Challenge!”

NBRHC Foundation President and CEO Tammy Morison says the Our Hospital Walk/Run is the community’s largest annual fundraiser for the Health Centre. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of sponsors and donors, along with participants and volunteers,” Morison says. “This fundraiser has an impact on its ability to provide exceptional care, close to home. I am humbled by the support of our community.”

Community and Hospital teams were celebrated through the Team Challenge Awards.

  • The Community Team Challenge Award: Steinman’s Supporters
  • Team Spirit: Superhero
  • The Hospital Team Challenge: Diagnostic Imaging
  • Youth Team Challenge: FIRST Team 1305 ICE Cubed Cool Walkers

Since the inception of Our Hospital Walk/Run in 2006, our community has raised more than $1.6M in support of our community’s healthcare needs. Race results and more information about the event are available at www.ourhospitalwalkrun.ca.
