CALICIURI, Maria
It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of Maria Caliciuri, surrounded by the love of her family at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice (North Bay) on Monday October 7, 2024, at the age of 86 years. Maria was the beloved wife of the late Giuseppe Caliciuri and the loving mother to Nancy Caliciuri, Josie Desrosiers (Bob), and Rocco Caliciuri. She was the cherished Nonna to Christina, Michael, Marina (Kari), Sabina (John), Kurt (Jen), Nadia (Riley), Nathan (Jenna), and proud Bisnonna to Alora, Mika, Atlas “Don Rocco”, and baby boy on the way. Maria was predeceased by her son Vincenzo, her parents Rocco and Giuseppina (nee Suraci) Scarfone, Vincenzo and Maria (nee Scarfone) Caliciuri, as well as her beloved siblings Santo (Anna), Antonia, Francesca (Domenico), Giuseppe (Carmosina), Stefano, Rosa (Placido), Antonino and Nicola. Maria will be deeply missed by her surviving sister in-laws Maria Caliciuri (Vincenzo- deceased), Romana Caliciuri (Antonio- deceased) and Rosetta Scarfone as well as her many adored nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friend Joanne Taylor among many others.
Maria was born in Santo Stefano in Aspromonte, Reggio Calabria, Italy. It is there that she married the love of her life Giuseppe, and they began their family. They eventually came to call Canada home, immigrating three years apart and reuniting with many relatives in North Bay. Maria was a well-known pillar of the Italian community, serving over 32 years with the Davedi Club as a member of the women’s auxiliary. Her humour and joy radiated to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved baking, cooking, gardening and entertaining her family and friends, but nothing brought her more pride and happiness than being in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Family will be receiving visitors at the McGUINTY FUNERAL HOME (North Bay) on Tuesday October 15, 2024, from 2-4pm & 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church on Wednesday October 16, 2024, at 11:30am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. The Caliciuri family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gordan Mah, Dr. Inez Jinnah, Dr. Blair Bowker and the incredible nurses and staff at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice for their outstanding care, compassion and support.
