Joan Hickey
Passed away peacefully at Eastholme on Thursday, February 6th, 2025 at the age of 91. She was predeceased by her husband Michael Hickey and her daughter Michaela.
Joan was very passionate about literacy and her career in teaching. She came to Canada from England after WW2 to teach in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. While there, she met her husband Mike who was stationed with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Together they lived in Belgium, Ottawa and then settled in North Bay, where she taught at Vincent Massey School and later retired. Joan had an adventurous spirit and with her husband Mike, they travelled to many places across Europe and the United States. Often travelling in their van, by bike or on a motorcycle. She will be sadly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or service. A graveside service will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Literacy Nipissing or to the Salvation Army.
