Oliver Stephens
Oliver James Stephens, 93, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2024, just 12 short days after his beloved wife of 72 years, Veronica Anna (Warnock).
Oliver was born on June 27, 1930, to Florence Ethel Patton and Oliver James Stephens, in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
He married Veronica (Vera) on April 5, 1952 and began their journey to Canada one week later. They settled in Toronto and moved to North Bay later in life.
Dear Father to Brian (Suki), and Brenda (TR Hosier). Oliver will be fondly remembered by grandchildren Jessica (Andrew Sime), Kevin (Kayla), Stephen (Suzana) and Leanna Hosier along with his great-grandchildren Sianna, Jessa, Jake and Lainey. Survived by his sister Isabella (Don Bloxam), nephew Nigel (Pauline) and niece Sharon.
Oliver began his career as a carpenter and, after furthering his education, advanced to become a project manager overseeing numerous Toronto landmarks including Ontario Place. He later founded his own business, 'S & W Contractors,' where he undertook projects at SickKids, Toronto General Hospital, Ryerson University, and the Don Jail.
Oliver enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and training dogs. He excelled as an athlete, achieving titles as both the British boxing and swimming champion.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Hillside Funeral Services, located at 362 Airport Road, North Bay, to honour both Oliver and his beloved Vera on June 23, 2024, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. The service will commence at 2:00 pm, followed by refreshments.
Oliver and Vera will make their final journey back to Northern Ireland together to be laid to rest at a future date.
