Update coming on efforts to address PFAS in North Bay

The city and Department of National Defence will be giving an update on efforts to address polyfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) originating from the Jack Garland Airport and CFB North Bay.
They’re co-hosting a public information session on Nov. 19 (3 pm) at the Best Western.
“During the session, subject matter experts will present updates on ongoing studies and remediation efforts and provide a forum for one-on-one interaction with project teams and experts to address community questions and concerns,”
Officials say representatives from the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit will also share information and be available to answer questions from the public.
The city and DND previously reached an agreement to address the remediation of PFAS at Jack Garland Airport, with the federal government funding the majority of the clean-up costs.
The agreement includes a $20 million-contribution from DND over a period of six years.
