Vehicle clocked going nearly 80 km/h over the limit on Hwy 11
178 km/h. That’s how fast the North Bay OPP says a vehicle was being driven in a posted 100 km/h zone on Highway 11 in Trout Creek at approximately 4:15 pm on Monday.
Provincial Police say an officer was conducting traffic enforcement in the Powassan area at the time when they saw a northbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed.
As a result of an investigation, a 31-year-old North Bay resident was charged with stunt driving and using an unauthorized plate.
The driver’s licence was immediately suspended for 30 days and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
“The North Bay OPP reminds motorists that speeding continues to be a leading contributing factor in fatal and serious-injury collisions on Ontario roads,” states a release. “Excessive speed reduces reaction time, increases stopping distances, and significantly increases the risk of a collision.”
The accused has a future court appearance in North Bay.
