VENASSE, Arena (Rena/Reeny)

Rena peacefully passed away at Nipissing Serenity Hospice on April 29th, 2026, at the age of 97. Born in Mattawa, Ontario on February 6, 1929, Rena lived a long and full life, surrounded by family, friends and laughter. She was the cherished wife of the late Donald J. Venasse, who passed away before her in 2001. Together, they created a life filled with cherished memories.

 Rena was a loving mother to Michael (Lori) of North Bay, Patti O’Neil of Duncan, British Columbia and Gerry (Paulette) of Ottawa. She was also a proud and cherished grandmother to ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Pearl Valois, and by her brother Arthur “Bunny” Valois Jr. Rena will be deeply missed by her sisters Sonia Lamoureux of Markham, Ontario and Teresa Simpson of Stoney Point, Ontario, as well as many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched.

 Rena was known for her quick wit, which she generously shared with everyone around her. She treasured time spent with family and friends, and her lively spirit and sense of humour remained with her throughout her life.

 The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers at Nipissing Serenity Hospice, as well as Dr. Jinnah, Dr. Roscoe and her long-time physician, Dr. Cowan, whose care helped Rena live a long and healthy life.

 Following Rena’s wishes, there will be no service. Hillside Funeral Services will handle the cremation arrangements. She will be interred at Holy Cross Cemetery, where she will be placed beside her husband, Don.

 Rena’s grandson Shawn was a bright light in her life.
