Villeneuve steps down as Conservative candidate

The federal Conservatives in Nipissing-Timiskaming are looking for a new candidate.
Cassidy Villeneuve issued a statement Sunday evening saying she’s stepping down.
“While this is not the end of the journey I had hoped for, I believe it is the right one for me and my family,” Villeneuve writes.
She says since being nominated she and her team have been knocking on doors, hearing constituents stories.
“As a woman, the challenges working in politics are often magnified,” Villeneuve adds. “The pushback I’ve faced from certain members of the board has made it clear how difficult it can be to navigate these spaces. I am stepping down with my head high – knowing that I fought for greater transparency and accountability.”
She closes by thanking her team and supporters, saying she looks forward to continuing to support the party and their vision for the country.
