Voo Doos Weather the Storm
Alex Case had 1 goal and 2 assists as the Powassan Voodoos dumped the Iroquois Falls Storm 6-1 at the Jus Jordan Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Daniel Dirracolo made 35 saves in goal for the Voodoos who, with the win, take 5 of 6 points during their 3-game northern road trip this weekend.
The Voodoos struck quickly with a pair in under 10 seconds which energized the Voodoos offence.
Justin Rousseau raced down the right wing at the end of a penalty kill, and ripped a shot by Storm goalie Connor Hatfield to make it 1-0 Voodoos at 8:16.
Less than 10 seconds later off the draw Zach Turner took a feed from Ryan Patrick and came down the left wing and beat Hatfield for the 2-0 at 8:21.
A few minutes later the crafty Mathieu MacMillan got some speed through the neutral zone and from the right wing his low shot beat Hatfield which made it 3-0.
After killing off another power play, the Voodoos added more as Alex Little beat Hatfield to make it 4-0 at 16:07.
The Storm finally solved Daniel Dirracolo, as Tyson Klimsiak walked out from behind the net and beat the Voodoos netminder which made it 4-1 at 11:56 of the middle frame.
Not long after that Alex Case beat Hatfield which made it 5-1 Voodoos.
In the latter stages of the period, Reyth Smith made it 6-1 as he drove the net and beat Hatfield on a nice play by the Battalion prospect at 18:41 of the second.
The two teams finished scoreless in the third as both goaltenders made some big stops.
With the win, the Voodoos improve to 30-17-1-2 as they move back into second in the NOJHL East, while the Storm drop to 15-36-0-2.
