Voodoos goalie heading to Niagara University

Powassan goaltender Derrick Champagne is the latest Voodoos player to graduate to the college hockey ranks. 

 The 2005 birth-year goaltender from Greely, Ontario, has committed to play for the Niagara University Purple Eagles, who play in the ACHA Division I.  

 Champagne had a solid 2025-26 season with the Voodoos and was named to the league's third All-Star team.  

 Champagne went 20-7-0-1 in 31 appearances for the Voodoos. 

 His 20 victories led all NOJHL netminders, while his four shutouts also paced all league goaltenders.

 Chris Dawson, Voodoos general manager, says Champagne had multiple options before joining Niagara University, where former Voodoos captain Alex Little plays. 

 "This is great news for Derrick as he sifted through many opportunities, and credit goes to former head coach Peter Goulet for helping him in this process too," said Dawson. 

 "Derrick had a great season for us, and we can't wait to see him continue to shine in the ACHA."  

 Champagne joins graduating defenceman Marcus Krats and Ben Gisonni, who are moving on to play NCAA Division III hockey this fall, while defenceman Bruce Grey and forward Raphael Landry are going overseas to play in the new European Union College Hockey League this fall.
