Voodoos head coach Goulet leaving for the OHL

Voodoos head coach Goulet leaving for the OHL

The longest-tenured coach in Voodoos' history will be moving on.

Peter Goulet, who was hired to replace Marc Lafleur as head coach in the summer of 2022, has accepted an assistant coaching position with the Brantford Bulldogs of the Ontario Hockey League.

Goulet joined the Bulldogs as head scout in 2025 and now adds the assistant coaching title to his resume.

“I am forever grateful for the past four years,” said Goulet.

“Thanks to Jim Bruce, who is an amazing owner and the great staff I worked with over the years. I have met so many new friends. Not easy to leave, but this is a great opportunity for my career.”

Chris Dawson, Voodoos general manager and longtime hockey friend of Goulet's, is glad to see his colleague accept the OHL promotion.

Goulet joins former Voodoos head coaches Scott Wray and Marc Lafleur as coaches to receive promotions to Major Junior Hockey. Max Gavin, who preceded Lafleur, is currently the NCAA Division I varsity women's hockey coach at Lindenwood University.

"We are very happy for coach Peter, as he has been a tireless worker on the bench and off the ice for our program," said Dawson.

"We know he is going to a great organization and our owner, returning players and staff will certainly miss him this fall."

Goulet is coming off his second NOJHL Coach of the Year nod in four seasons.

Goulet has more than 600 wins as a head coach and an assistant coach. He has coached more than 1,000 games in his career.

He guided Powassan to a 26-point improvement in the standings from last season, which was a league-best.

The Voodoos finished second overall in the NOJHL, compared to being seventh in 2024-25.

The next step for the Voodoos is to start the search for a new head coach.

"We aren't going to try and fit a square peg in a round hole," stated Dawson.

"We have a great support system in place for a head coach, so we are looking for a new coach who is honest, hard-working and eager to win a NOJHL championship."

The Voodoos will start their search for a new head coach immediately.
