Voodoos ink multi-sport Toronto area athlete
The Powassan Voodoos have signed a multi-sport athlete who will be competing in two sports this fall, the club announced on Thursday.
The Voodoos signed Nicholas Ludgate from the Mississauga Rebels U18 AAA team, where the 2008 birth-year forward netted 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points in 56 games in 2025-26.
"I have been looking forward to playing for the Voodoos for this upcoming season for the past couple of years, and it’s fantastic to finally be here," noted Ludgate, who was an affiliate with the Voodoos last season.
"Powassan has a winning culture with a great coaching staff and ownership, and I am glad to be a part of it. I’m a 200-foot playmaking forward who can create plays anywhere on the ice. I use my IQ and speed, while also being incredibly responsible and hardworking. I can’t wait to get started."
Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, believes Ludgate is a solid, great-skating player.
"We offered to sign Nick last summer, but for school reasons he had to stay home to graduate high school. Nick is going to be a very good player for us."
Ludgate will also be attending Nipissing University this fall and will be swapping his skates for running shoes as he will compete on the university's cross-country team while playing for the Voodoos.
Ludgate, who turns 18 on August 3, will be in North Bay July 4 and 5 for the Voodoos' annual prospects camp.
