VooDoos Name New Captain
The Powassan Voodoos have named defenceman Jackson Smith the Voodoos new captain for the upcoming 2024-24 season.
Smith, a 20-year-old Calgary, Alberta product joined the Voodoos in early 2024 after starting the season with the Camrose Kodiaks of the AJHL.
In 17 regular season games, Smith netted 1 goal and added 2 assists for 3 points.
Smith feels it did not take long to fit in with his new team.
“When I joined the Voodoos in January I quickly learned the culture here under Coach Peter Goulet is special,” said Smith about Goulet, the Voodoos head coach.
“This is a great honour and I understand the responsibility of representing our community, my teammates and the Voodoos staff and volunteers. Our entire group is driven to be successful this year.”
Peter Goulet, the Voodoos head coach, believes the veteran blueliner is a perfect fit for the leadership role left by the graduation of Voodoos captain Alex Little who is heading to Niagara University to play hockey this fall.
“Jackson is a true gentleman and is very well respected by his teammates,” said Goulet.
“I believe that Jackson is prepared to lead this team and help guide us to another great season. Jackson has had a great summer preparing himself for his last season of Jr A hockey. We are excited to have Jackson back and name him our team captain.”
Smith will join the rest of his teammates for the start of training camp on August 22.
