Voodoos sign mobile defender

The Powassan Voodoos have added an experienced mobile defenceman, the club announced Thursday.
Ben Gisonni, a 2005 birth year defenceman from Florida spent time last season with the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Hockey League and the Mercer Chiefs of the NCDC in the United States.
“Choosing the Voodoos was an easy choice because they provide the perfect environment to develop my game and take it to the next level,” said Gisonni who joined the team at the in Collingwood at the Cottage Cup.
“The winning culture, top-notch coaching, and commitment to player growth here made this the right place for me to succeed. I’m excited to contribute and help bring a league title and the Centennial Cup back to Powassan.”
Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, says the 5’10” defender, who can also play forward, has been on his scouting radar for three years.
“Ben is unbelievable skater and great on his edges,” he noted.
“The first time I saw Ben was in 2022, here he is playing for us. He's going to take a some time to adjust to the league but he’s going to be a good one.”
Gisonni and the Voodoos are back on the ice Saturday, September 6 when they travel north to New Liskeard for a neutral site game against the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners. Puck drop is 7 p.m. at the Don Shepherdson Memorial Arena.
