The Voodoos have bolstered their new look blueline with the addition of Battalion prospect Devran Brown, the club announced Tuesday.

The 6’1”, 175 pound defender netted 4 goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 46 games with the Arnprior Packers of the EOJHL Junior ‘B’ league.

Brown, who was selected 121st overall by the North Bay Battalion in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection, is excited about the opportunity to play for the Battalion NOJHL affiliate team in Powassan.

“I think just the connection with North Bay it will be a great experience but on the Powassan side, coach Pete is a very good coach, he’s well respected and he has a lot of knowledge on the game so I think he will teach me very well and I can learn a lot from him,” said Brown.

“I think I am a two way defence man, I like to defend more than play offence so I like to shut down the other team’s best players but can also chip in offensively when need be.”

John Winstanley, Battalion general manager, is impressed with the growth in Brown’s game.

“Brown is a very good two-way defender, he has good size and understands his strengths as a player,” said Winstanley.

“He had a good first year of junior hockey last year and making the jump to Junior ‘A’ was his next step. We look forward to watching him very closely with the Powassan Voodoos and seeing him develop into the player that we think he can be.”

Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach is very excited to work with Brown this season.

“Devran is entering his first year of junior ‘A’ hockey,” he said.

“He is more than ready to play no question about it. He has good size and great poise for a young Dman. This young man’s ceiling is very high and I am looking forward to watching him grow as a player.”

Brown and the Voodoos hit the ice Friday night for their regular season home opener as they take on the Soo Thunderbirds. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Powassan Sportsplex.
