Walking from Sudbury to North Bay to raise funds for the Run for the Cure
129 km.
That’s the distance Country 90.5 FM morning show host Kevin Oschefski will be walking and running in support of the CIBC Run for the Cure.
His Walk for the Cure takes place Oct. 1-4 taking him from the Cancer Care Centre in Sudbury to Downtown North Bay.
Earlier this year, Kevin’s family learned his wife has breast cancer and he wanted to do something in honour of her and all those who are fighting breast cancer.
He says traveling back home from the centre helped bring about this fundraiser.
“I thought how many people have made that same trip and gone through those same emotions,” he says. “We’re lucky enough we have a plan. Not everybody has that luxury. That’s what has inspired me to take on this fundraiser, this challenge that we are going to do leading up to the Run for the Cure.”
This year marks 20 years for the Run.
“Over 19 years we’ve raised $1.3 million in our community,” says Melanie Gainforth, volunteer logistics director. “It’s the people in our community raising money through pledges and bake sales and pink pants.”
A previous fundraiser for the run saw Oschefski wear pink pants for 30 days.
