West Nipissing resident facing dozens of fraud-related charges

An investigation into cheques being deposited twice has led to three dozen charges for a 32-year-old West Nipissing resident.

The Ontario Provincial Police investigation started in Nov. 2023 after a business reported cheques being deposited twice.

Nipissing West OPP say officers determined 18 cheques had been fraudulently processed a second time, resulting in an estimated loss of approximately $12,000.

Charges filed include fraud over $5,000, 18 counts of fraud under $5,000 and 18 counts of obtaining credit by false pretenses or fraud.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on November 7, 2024.
