William Raymond Manchur
William Raymond (Ray) Manchur, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 at Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa on March 7th. Predeceased by his wife, Marion of 44 years. He will be greatly missed by his siblings: Virginia Charbonneau (Larry) of North Bay, Les (Patricia, predeceased) of Oak Bluff Manitoba, Wayne Leopold of Mission, British Columbia, and Ted Leopold (predeceased). He leaves behind his daughters Tara (Richard Michauville) and Sally (John Lindsay), his grandchildren Hannah, Grace, Faith and James, sisters-in-law Shirley Blackburn (Paul Martel) and Linda Andrew (Sandy predeceased), brother-in-law Don Andrew and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in 1941, he was raised in Toronto (an eternal Maple Leafs and Blue Jays fan), owned a farm in Winnipeg in his early 20’s, and spent the rest of his life in the North Bay area after meeting Marion. His favorite place was at their cottage in Marten River where you would often find him working on an outdoor project, in his garden or taking the dogs on walks. He was a devoted family man, and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He enjoyed cheering them on at ringette and softball games, taking them for boat rides, baiting their hooks on the dock, doing sudoku puzzles and beating them at crazy eights. His love of food was unmatched, especially as the taste tester for Marion’s fudge recipes.
As per his wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will take place later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the outstanding care he received by all the staff at the Algonquin Nursing Home and the Mattawa General Hospital over the past year.
