Wilson dealt to Saginaw

The North Bay Battalion has traded the rights to defenceman Zach Wilson to the Saginaw Spirit, the Ontario Hockey League club announced.

North Bay receives Saginaw’s 12th-round pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection for Wilson, who turned 18 on March 7.

A third-rounder in 2023 from the Central Ontario Wolves U16s, Wilson played a total of 53 Battalion games, including 47 last season, scoring two goals and adding two assists for four points while drawing 26 penalty minutes.

The left shot blueliner, a resident of Fenelon Falls, Ont., who stands six-foot-six and weighs 187 pounds, was granted permission to try out with the Kitchener Rangers during training camp this year but was cut.

“With the abundance of D in our system, we felt this move was best to allow Zach the opportunity to remain in the OHL and continue his development,” said Adam Dennis, the Battalion’s director of hockey operations.

“We thank Zach for his time here in North Bay and wish him the best in Saginaw.”

The Troops have eight defencemen on their roster, including Declan Gallivan, who’s recovering from an illness.

The Battalion, with a won-lost-extended record of 3-3-0 after a 4-3 home-ice loss Sunday to the Soo Greyhounds, returns to action by visiting the Guelph Storm at 7:07 p.m. Friday. The game can be seen live in North Bay on YourTV Channels 12 and 700.
