Anishinabek Police seize over $250,000 in suspected drugs

By Richard Coffin

A six-month-long investigation by the Anishinabek Police Service has resulted in a quarter of a million dollars' worth of suspected drugs being seized.

Twenty people are facing charges, including two from Nipissing First Nation, ages 60 and 61.

Police say the investigation targeted a network of people exploiting several First Nation communities in close proximity to major Ontario highways.

They laid more than 78 charges after nine search warrants were executed at residences in Sagamok Anishnawbek, Parry Sound, Nipissing First Nation, and Ginoogaming First Nation.

“We know from experience that many of the individuals who bring harm into First Nation communities are linked to gang violence, organized crime groups, firearms and drug trafficking,” says APS Deputy Chief of Police, Julie Craddock. “These arrests will protect people, bolster community well-being, and prevent further violence and tragedy. I want to take this opportunity to extend my thanks to our policing partners and the dedicated members of the APS Major Crime team, frontline officers, and the professional staff members who support them.”

Suspected fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and a variety of tablets were seized, along with $55,000 in cash, three rifles and a handgun.
