City police seeking witnesses after vehicle hits crossing guard

By Brad Aubin

The North Bay Police service is looking to the community for help, after they say a crossing guard was hit by a vehicle last Wednesday morning.

Police say around 8:45 a.m., a crossing guard was struck near the intersection of Price Edward Drive and Summit Drive, sustaining minor injuries. They add the driver failed to remain at the scene, and the victim was unable to provide investigators with information that could assist in identifying the vehicle or driver involved.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have information that could assist the investigation, including cellphone, residential security, or dashcam footage, to contact the NBPS Traffic Unit at 705-497-5555 ext. 7508.

The NBPS is reminding motorists that drivers are required by law to obey crossing guards and stop immediately when a stop sign is displayed.

“Disobeying a crossing guard isn’t just illegal, it’s a potentially fatal decision,” said Acting Deputy Warner. “Pedestrians do not have the same protection as those inside a vehicle, and even low-speed collisions can result in serious or life-threatening injuries. Drivers need to keep their eyes on the road ahead, avoid distractions, remain alert in school zones, and obey crossing guards to help ensure children and pedestrians can cross safely.”
