Connie Hocking
In Loving Memory of Connie Anne Hocking
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Connie Anne Hocking on June 7, 2026, at Nipissing Serenity Hospice, with her family and friends lovingly by her side. Born in Stephenville, Newfoundland, Connie’s journey took her from the classrooms of North Bay to the skies and across the globe, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, creativity, and an unbreakable maternal bond.
Throughout her life, Connie was defined by a remarkable blend of discipline and talent, most notably as an accomplished figure skater with the North Bay Figure Skating Club. She reached the pinnacle of her sport, proudly completing all her Gold Dances and finding immense joy in Interpretive competitions and traveling with her Precision Team.
While living abroad, she shared her love for the ice as a figure skating coach with the Kuwait Figure Skating School. Her thirst for knowledge and service led her to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Nipissing University in 1998 and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Medaille College in 2003. As a devoted elementary school teacher, she spent countless hours nurturing and inspiring young children in Kuwait, China, Singapore, Indonesia, and Canada.
While her career and travels were global, Connie’s heart was always centered on one person: her beloved son, Alexander. Alexander was truly her everything; every adventure she took and every challenge she overcame was fueled by her deep, unwavering love for him. He was her greatest pride, her constant light, and her most cherished accomplishment. Connie was also a woman of great artistic flair; after living in China, she channeled her creativity into a pearl business, where she took great joy in designing and crafting beautiful jewelry. Her creative spirit further shone through her writing; she authored a children's book about her most loved dog titled "The Backyard Adventure of Lily Mae" and created a special cookbook featuring all of Alexander’s favourite recipes. Never one to stay grounded, she also conquered the skies, graduating as a Commercial Helicopter Pilot in 2014 from Essential Helicopters and Canadore College. Upon her return to Canada, Connie channeled her nurturing spirit into animal advocacy, becoming a fierce voice for stray and mistreated dogs and dedicating herself to the welfare of animals who could not speak for themselves.
Connie will be forever remembered and missed by her son, Alexander; his father and former husband, Shawn (Jennifer); her mother, Catherine Beaulne Doucette (Stuart); and her step-father, Titos Tylians (Linda). She will be sadly missed by her many students worldwide, as well as her relatives and dear friends. The family wishes to express profound gratitude to Dr. Jinnah and the staff at Nipissing Serenity Hospice for the exceptional comfort and quality of care they provided to Connie in her final days. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at the Callander Legion Branch 445 at a later date, where friends and family can gather to share stories and honour a life lived with extraordinary courage and heart.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice in Connie’s memory. Online condolences can be made at www.hillsidefuneral.ca
