Contractor Fraud Results in $16,000 Loss; Suspect Charged

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has arrested a man following a fraud investigation into an alleged construction scam. The victim paid $16,000 for services that were not completed.

In May 2025, the accused was hired through what appeared to be a legitimate business. Over the course of several weeks, the victim sent payments totaling $16,000 for work that was never completed. Communication subsequently ceased.

The accused, William James Scriver, 40-year-old, male, of, North Bay, has been charged with:

  • Fraud Over $5,000

“We encourage the public to take steps to protect themselves when hiring any services,” said Insp. McFarlane. “Fraud can result in significant financial loss and cause serious emotional harm to victims. If something doesn’t seem right, ask for references, and speak with a trusted advisor, friend, or family member. Trust your instincts and report any suspicious behaviour to police.”

The accused was arrested and released on an Undertaking with a future court date.
