Discovery Routes launches ‘gear drive’ for families in need
By Brad Aubin
Ahead of you spring cleaning the garage or shed, Discovery Routes is calling on the community to help put trail-ready equipment into the hands that need it most.
The 2026 ReCycle Bikes and outdoor gear collection has officially launched, and the registered charity says any donated high-quality, gently gear like hiking poles, snow shoes, scooters, skis and bikes will help remove barriers.
Officials say working alongside local service organizations, every piece of equipment will be matched with youth and families who may otherwise not have access to recreational gear.

“Every bike we redistribute represents a new opportunity for someone in our community to gain independence, explore their community and improve their health,” says Lance Belanger, ReCycle Bikes volunteer mechanic. “By donating gear that might be gathering dust in a basement or shed, residents are directly contributing to a more healthy, active, connected and cleaner North Bay.”
Discovery Routes says a $25 charitable tax receipt will be offered to every bike and qualifying gear donated that’s in good working order. You can drop it off starting on Wednesday until late June at the Laurentian Lower Lodge on Ski Club Road.
