Ferguson, John Hugh
Ferguson, John Hugh. He did not go quietly into that night but walked himself to his final act, next to a river in the Peruvian Andes in the wee morning hours of Friday, March 13, 2026.
Though John and his family moved to Vancouver BC in 1979, he remained fiercely proud of his West Ferris childhood and often talked about his Lake Talon cottage life and his hockey youth- even playing on a line with the legendary Maple Leaf Ron Ellis. Playing football and hockey for the Chippewa Raiders played a big role in his teen years.
John married Anne Kennedy in 1967 and their son, Iain was born in 1971. Also in 1971, John graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Masters of Social Work and spent his career in psychiatric social work and later addiction treatment.
John was a terrible cook but a passionate devotee of jazz music, cinema and good books.
John met his second wife Lilliana when volunteering at the Glass Slipper Club in Vancouver. Late in life, John discovered the joys of travel with trips to Spain, Portugal and his favourite, Peru.
John is survived by his wife, Carmen Lilliana Koc, his son, Iain Hugh Ferguson, his daughter in law, Francoise, his granddaughters, Edith Raunet, and Leia Ferguson and his siblings, Danny Ferguson (Lovie) and Laurie (Lachlan McLachlan.)
A celebration of life well lived will be held in Vancouver on May 24, 2026.
Rest in peace.
