Free transit rides for youth 12-17 this summer
A new program is bringing free transit rides to youth ages 12-17 in North Bay this summer.

They can go to the Transit Terminal starting today (May 29) and get their BAYGO Pass.
From June 1 to Sept. 7, it allows them to get on the bus and get to where ever they want to go in North Bay.

Brent Kalinowski, Community Safety & Well-Being Coordinator with the City of North Bay, says the initiative is helping youth get active in the city.

“It’s an age group that has limitations to transportation so we wanted to provide that for them, to be able to access a number of different things whether that ‘s social , sporting or employment opportunities in the summer time, or just to get out and explore,” he says.
The program is delivered in partnership with Planet Youth and Canadore College.
Alyssa Bedard, Community Development Coordinator with Project Youth Nipissing, says the feedback was positive after they held a small trial program with ten trip passes and surveyed those who took part.
“There was some excellent feedback from youth and their caregivers that was showing access to all of the things they wanted to get to in the city was improved through having that transit pass,” she says.
There no cost to get involved, however a form of identification that details the youth’s age is needed when signing up.
A photo will also be taken for their card.
