James Albert "Jim" Mason
James Albert "Jim" Mason passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, in North Bay, Ontario, and is now reunited with his beloved wife, Marg Mason, who predeceased him in 2019, after 44 years of marriage.
Born on June 20, 1935, in Thornton, Ontario, Jim was the son of the late John England ‘Engie’ Mason and Gladys Mary (Wiley) Mason. He is lovingly remembered by his sister, Donna Elaine Lewis of Waterloo, and his brother, Paul Wiley Mason and his wife Leanne of Ridgeway. He was a cherished uncle to John, Wayne and Teresa Lewis, and to Stephen Mason and Lesley (Mason) Burrison. Jim was also a proud and devoted Great-Uncle Jim to many nieces and nephews in the Lewis, Mason, and Burrison families. Brother-in-law of (Gordon White and Sheila) predeceased, Lloyd White (predeceased) and Betty, (Douglas White and Norma) predeceased, (Betty Lipnicky and Steve) predeceased. Predeceased by nephews Richard, Hugh and John White. Predeceased by niece Gwen Storie. Survived by nephews Ron, Dale, Chris and Tim White, Gerry, David and Randy Lipnicky and by nieces Connie Young, Judy White and Nancy Falconer.
Jim dedicated 35 years of service to the community of Alliston through his work with the Public Utility Commission. A hardworking and dependable employee, he could often be found out in the harshest weather conditions - working long hours to ensure the families in his community had light and heat. He was respected by his colleagues, appreciated by the public he served, and valued as a friend by many.
Upon retirement, Jim and Marg moved from Alliston to Callander, Ontario, where life on the bay brought them years of happiness. Together, they embraced the beauty of the outdoors, spending time walking their beloved dogs through the woods and enjoying the sights and sounds of nature, especially the call of the Canadian loon. Faithful in their local church, they devoted their time to serving and visiting those who were unable to leave their homes.
Family was also important as Jim and Marg delighted in opening their home to relatives and friends, creating lasting memories through family gatherings, holiday celebrations, and special occasions. They also shared a lifelong love of sports - especially hockey. Loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fans, they rarely missed a game or a commentary on Don Cherry's, the Coach's Corner.
As the years passed, Jim and Marg moved from Callander to North Bay and later to the Empire Living Centre, where they received exceptional care, comfort, and support throughout their later years.
The family also wishes to extend its sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Dale and Pat White, whose selfless generosity, friendship, and loving care provided both Jim and Marg with comfort and companionship, while offering immeasurable peace of mind to their family. Special thanks to Dr Vigars and the A3 nursing staff at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. The family also wishes to express profound gratitude to the staff at Nipissing Serenity Hospice who provided exceptional quality of care to Jim in his final days. The family would also like to thank the Managers Barb, Cindy and the entire staff at The Empire Living Centre for their support and guidance.
Jim will be remembered for his infectious laugh, his warm smile, his gentle spirit, and his generous heart. His kindness touched the lives of all who knew him, and his memory will continue to be treasured by family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to Nipissing Serenity Hospice would be appreciated. Arrangements are entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home.
Forever loved, deeply missed, and fondly remembered.
