John Roman Hachkowski
July 15, 1939 – April 23, 2026
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Roman Hachkowski on April 23, 2026, at the age of 86.
Cherished spouse of Livia and a proud father, aka “Tato”, to sons George (Sheila), Roman (Mary-Katherine), and Chris (Meghan). Dedicated grandfather “Geed”, to Emma, Ben, Christian, Katrina, Sophia, Aidan, Jack, and Cyrus. Elder brother to Nataline (Griswald) and son of Roman and Ann Hachkowski.
Born and raised in North Bay, John was known for his warm sense of humour and friendly nature. John had a deep appreciation for the arts and learning. An avid reader, painter, and photographer, his passions enriched both his life and the lives of family and friends. John was a dedicated member of the North Bay community, generously giving back through volunteer work and charitable contributions. He especially enjoyed volunteering with the Heritage Railway and Carousel Company, conducting the miniature train and running the carousel for the city’s children and its visitors.
Working alongside his wife Livia, John was a respected businessman who owned and operated several taverns and hotels throughout his career. He built lasting relationships and left a meaningful mark within the community through both business and friendship. John and Livia embraced a life of adventure and exploration, travelling to over 80 countries, creating a lifetime of shared memories.
He will be deeply missed for his infectious laughter, wholehearted enjoyment of a good meal, and the enduring presence he brought to every gathering. John was truly the heart of his family, and his absence will be felt profoundly by all who knew and loved him.
The entire family would like to thank the staff at the North Bay Regional Health Centre for the incredible and loving care of our father received.
Friends and family will be received at Martyn Funeral Home on Friday, May 1 from 6:00 -8:00 pm, and on Saturday, May 2 at 10:00 am followed by a funeral service starting at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Bay Heritage Carousel and Railway Company (https://www.heritagerailwayandcarousel.com/trainstation) or Hands the Family Help Network (North Bay) (https://thefamilyhelpnetwork.ca/services/donate/) in John’s memory.
