Local Legions receiving rebates for liquor licences

Local Legions receiving rebates for liquor licences

By Richard Coffin

Royal Canadian Legion branches across Ontario, including locally, are now getting rebates for applying or renewing their liquor licences.

Across the province, it amounts to about $50,000 a year and involves nearly 400 branches.

The program took effect on June 1 and applies retroactively to April 1.

“The Royal Canadian Legions in Nipissing have a long history of serving veterans and strengthening our community,” says MPP Vic Fedeli. “Our government is proud to support legions by reducing costs so they can continue investing in the people, programs, and services that matter most to veterans and local families.”

The rebate for a two-year licence term is $1,055, while the rebate for a four-year term is $1,355.

“MPP Fedeli has been a staunch supporter of Branch 445 Callander Legion and the Royal Canadian Legion at large, its veterans, legionnaires and seniors in our community,” says Amanda Hiscock, President of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 445. “We appreciate all his efforts in supporting the Branch financially and welcome this specific liquor licence fee rebate.”

The province says rebates are issued automatically following approval of a liquor sales licence or renewal by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
