NBPS Congratulates 2026 Graduates and Encourages Safe Celebrations

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) extends its congratulations to all graduating students of 2026 as they celebrate this important milestone and look ahead to the future.

Graduation marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. Whether graduates are continuing their education, entering the workforce, or pursuing new adventures, this achievement reflects years of hard work, dedication and perseverance.

As celebrations take place throughout the community, the NBPS is reminding graduates, their friends and families to make safety a priority.

If you are attending graduation parties or events, plan a safe ride home before celebrations begin. Impaired driving remains one of the leading threats to road safety and can involve alcohol, cannabis, prescription medication or other drugs. An impaired driving charge can have significant, unwanted, and lasting impacts on your future. Anyone who chooses to consume should arrange for a designated driver, taxi, rideshare service or safe place to stay for the night.

The NBPS is also reminding drivers to obey speed limits, avoid distractions and drive responsibly. Careless driving and other risky behaviours behind the wheel can have serious, life-altering consequences for drivers, passengers and other road users.

With many young people celebrating near local lakes and waterways, officers are also encouraging everyone to practice water safety. Never swim alone, avoid entering the water while impaired, and wear a life jacket when boating or participating in water-related activities.

Graduates are also encouraged to be aware of their surroundings, stay with trusted friends and look out for one another. If you feel unsafe or find yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, leave the area and seek assistance from a trusted adult, friend, family member, or call 911 in an emergency.

"Graduation is a time to celebrate your accomplishments and look forward to the next chapter," said Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. "Please plan your ride home, make responsible choices and look out for your friends. Our graduates have bright futures ahead of them, and we want everyone to enjoy these celebrations safely."

The NBPS wishes all graduates a safe and memorable graduation season and congratulates them on this significant achievement.
