NBPS Launches Traffic Management & Road Safety Plan

NBPS Launches Traffic Management & Road Safety Plan

The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) has published its 2026-2028 Multi-Year Traffic Management & Safety Plan (“the Plan”), a comprehensive strategy aimed at reducing motor vehicle collision fatalities and serious injuries on city roads.

In North Bay, motor vehicle collision deaths continue to rival, and in some years exceed, homicide rates. The Plan sets out a coordinated, data-driven approach focused on improving safety outcomes across the city, with particular emphasis on locations and behaviours most strongly associated with serious collisions.

The Plan prioritizes the safety of vulnerable road users, including pedestrians, school children, older adults, and cyclists. It identifies six priority areas of concern and outlines targeted, proactive initiatives designed to address high-risk driving behaviours such as aggressive driving and distracted driving, while also enhancing cyclist safety.

The NBPS emphasizes that road fatalities and serious injuries are preventable and reaffirmed its commitment to reducing harm through focused enforcement, education, and collaboration.

Improving road safety requires a multidisciplinary approach involving:

  • Engineering improvements to roadway design and infrastructure
  • Education initiatives to influence driver and pedestrian behaviour
  • Enforcement of traffic laws by police

“This is a comprehensive plan that maps out our priorities and will guide our efforts over the next two years,” said A/Deputy Chief Warner. “It is a tremendous tool that will direct our road safety initiatives, education, and targeted enforcement to improve the safety of our roadways.”
