NBPS Pedestrian Crossover Enforcement Results in 9 Charges
The North Bay Police Service (NBPS) Community Response Unit (CRU), issued nine charges during a three-week enforcement initiative targeting drivers who failed to comply with the rules around pedestrian crossovers in downtown North Bay.
The enforcement initiative took place between April 29 and May 15, 2026 aimed at reducing fatal and serious injury pedestrian collisions. The goal of the initiative supported the objectives outlined in the NBPS 2026–2028 Traffic Management & Safety Plan.
Launched on April 29, the CRU, comprised of officers from the Traffic and Foot Patrol Units, conducted enhanced enforcement of Highway Traffic Act offences in the downtown core during peak travel periods. Drivers who failed to yield to pedestrians at designated crossovers are subject to a $375 fine and four demerit points.
Enforcement strategies such as this are intended to increase compliance with traffic laws that directly impact pedestrian safety in areas where there is an elevated risk of collisions due to increased interaction between pedestrians and motorists.
“While the campaign is concluded, it is paramount that drivers continue to follow the rules while travelling on our roads,” said Sergeant McClenaghan. “Our officers will continue to enforce traffic laws to keep the city’s roads and people safe. Follow the rules to avoid getting ticketed and keep our roads safe for everyone who uses them.”

Campaign Results
Officers observed strong overall compliance, with 255 drivers, representing 95 per cent, observed adhering to pedestrian crossover rules during the campaign period.
During the initiative, NBPS officers issued:
- 4 warnings
- 9 Highway Traffic Act charges
While this initiative has concluded, enforcement will continue, and additional targeted initiatives are planned for the future.
