No charges after OPP investigate credit card expenses
The Ontario Provincial Police says no charges are being laid after wrapping up its investigation into the mayor’s credit card expenses.
The full statement is below:
“The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) appreciates the public interest in this matter, particularly as it concerns allegations against a public, elected official. The OPP Anti‑Rackets Branch conducted a thorough and professional investigation into this matter. That investigation has concluded and charges are not being laid.”

The investigation started last summer after the North Bay Police Service referred a complaint to the OPP.

Last October, council agreed to suspend Mayor Peter Chirico’s pay for 60 days after the Integrity Commissioner found code of conduct breaches with $5,500 worth of credit card expenses.

In a statement, Chirico says police have an obligation to review and address complaints when they are made.
“I am pleased to learn that this matter has been reviewed through the appropriate process and has now been concluded,” shared Chirico.
